[x_feature_headline level=”h2″ looks_like=”h4″ icon=”lightbulb-o”]Pure shooters can no longer be one-dimensional catch and shoot players with a picture-perfect shooting form. They’re required to do more. [/x_feature_headline]
As the game of basketball and the skill of shooting both continue to evolve, the purest shooters will be defined by their ability to master the art of scoring in newer, harder ways.
A few pure shooters, today, and many pure shooters in the future will effectively:
– take (only) one or two hard dribbles and take smart pull-up jumpers
– drive hard to the basket off-the-dribble to break down the defense
– use SNAPPY passes to create (hockey) assists for themselves and their teammates
– make free throws at exceptionally high accuracy rates
– make three-point shots, via catch-and-shoot, off-the-dribble, and on fast-breaks in transition
– make layups with high difficulty using the rim, the backboard and english on the release (with either hands)
– make good use of the backboard for bank shots from the mid-range
– use smart and convincing pump-fakes to draw fouls and create 3 and 4-point play opportunities
– encourage teammates struggling with their shot (cold streaks) and helping them remain confident
– curl and slither around multiple screens per possession to get open and then attack with the ball.
